Project General Description
Funding was approved in 2008 but the project experienced delays because CABRI obtained legal status only on 3 December 2009 during which time the funds were held by the National Treasury of South Africa. Most projects thus came to fruition during 2010. Achievements include the publishing of a Budget Practices and Procedures Report and support to Regional Public Goods (RPGs) project – a set of research papers on planning, budgeting and management of goods and services. Delays in implementation of the Regional Public goods project arose due to capacity issues which necessitated an extension of the agreement between the Bank and the Government of South Africa until 31 December 2011. In this context, a concept note and research proposal for the RPG study is under finalization. The research project will culminate in an African Policy seminar in May 2011. The outputs of the study will be presented at the Africa policy seminar scheduled for November 2011 where research findings will be disseminated. The third component includes support to a budget resource center which will go live in 2011/12. The grant is fully disbursed to the beneficiary and several activities are ongoing.
