Project General Description

The present project concerns the social audit to improve governance and accountability in the social sectors in Egypt. It's a formal process for auditing development activities and their social, economic, and environmental impact. The application of social audits should promote increased transparency and accountability in the management of public resources at decentralized levels in Egypt. Having citizen participation in the evaluation of social services should also serve to improve the delivery of services by ensuring that they are more tailored to population needs.

Project Objectives

The objective of this proposal is to improve citizen voice, accountability and community participation through Social Audit as a means to improve service delivery in health and education sectors. Specifically, this proposal seeks to develop a social audit framework and toolkit for application in the North African context and Egypt in particular. Social Audit is a formal process for auditing development activities and their social, economic, and environmental impact. It is a participatory process involving a variety of stakeholders, with an emphasis on the community, in which the results are transparent and made available publicly. Social Audit may be applied in government, non-governmental (NGO), or private sector and is an essential building block to building participatory governance. The application of Social audits will promote increased transparency and accountability in the management of public resources at decentralized levels in Egypt. Having citizen participation in the evaluation of social services will also serve to improve the delivery of services by ensuring that they are more tailored to population needs.
