Project General Description

This intervention relates to the SME Support Program to improve their access to non-bank financing. It aims to put in place a national program targeting a group of promising SMEs that can develop and generate jobs, provided that these SMEs correct their weaknesses in terms of capacity. The program will facilitate SMEs' access to finance (in the capital market or through private equity funds), which will enable them to execute their investment plans, develop their businesses and create new jobs opportunities. Improvements in the capacities of beneficiary SMEs (from the point of view of strengthening governance, systems, etc.), the amount of funding mobilized by beneficiary SMEs, the growth of their activities and the new jobs they will create throughout the life of the project will be monitored and documented.

Project Objectives

The objective of the programme is to improve private sector development and job creation through SME capacity building and improved access to non-bank finance. Specifically, the programme intends to work in an initial phase with three cohorts of around 40 SMEs each (one cohort per quarter for three consecutive quarters).

The main beneficiaries of the program are SMEs. The project will promote the growth of beneficiary SMEs, thus contributing to the development of the private sector and the creation of jobs. The project doesn’t explicitly target women or disadvantaged groups, but efforts will be made to attract women-owned SMEs and SMEs from underserved areas to the program.
