OSHD obtained financing from the Canada Trust Fund towards a study to review and assess policies and practices in technical and vocational skills development (TVSD) in Africa. The objective is to support the development of a TVET system that is more responsive to the market and to facilitate employment amongst the large numbers of young people. The study will provide policy oriented advice to the Bank, RMCs, and development partners in Sub-Sahara Africa.
During 2011, some of the activities that took place included procurement of the Consultants. Due to the relocation of the Task Manager to the Field as part of the Bank’s decentralization process, the activity faced technical issues on transferring the budget lines, which led to the re-assignment of the Consultants to other engagements. Studies have taken place in four countries (Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Senegal) and it is anticipated that the Consultants will resume the study in Gabon, Ghana and Tunisia in May 2012, after which there will be a stakeholders validation workshop and a report delivered by the third quarter of 2012.
