The present project concerns the feasibility study for water development project in southern Benin. This study was designed because of the overexploitation of water bodies in southern Benin due to population pressure, land scarcity, crop diversification and lack of industry. Their development should therefore focus on the rational management of resources and the protection of the environment. The study should be carried out in three phases: the first phase should make a diagnostic assessment of the fisheries and present the pre-feasibility of the identified project(s), the second phase should focus on the feasibility of the projects selected in the first phase and the third is to carry out the detailed preliminary projects.
The objective of the study is to propose packages of measures on the management of water bodies with a view to their rational exploitation and the feasibility of one or more projects allowing the conversion of fishermen displaced from water bodies to other sectors of activity.
The beneficiaries of the project are the local authorities in charge of the water sector and the other actors in the field.
