The primary purpose of the project is to integrate the rural population living in remote areas into the mainstream of the country's economic and social life by providing all-weather road links between rural centres of population and major activity centres as well as to the established national road network. By ensuring year-round access to remote areas, the Government aims at encouraging the rural dwellers to engage in productive activities and exploiting the potential for development of agricultural production.
