The project is in line with the interventions that the African Development Bank Group has been making on the same road since 2011 and the support of other donors in the context of the gradual development of the national road 1 (RN1). The section funded under this support is 87 km long and is developing between Tshikapa, Kassala, Biakabomba, Kakumba, Katalaye, and Kamuesha. It constitutes the continuity of the section between the Lovua bridge and Tshikapa, including the bridge over the Kasai River. The road works consist of the construction of the road crossing the city of Tshikapa and large villages such as Kakumba and Kamuesha. The improvements will focus on the rehabilitation of agricultural roads and marketing infrastructure, the rehabilitation and development of the production facility, capacity building and the promotion of community structures.
The sectoral objective is to contribute to the opening up of the Provinces of Bandundu and Kasaï Occidental. Its specific objective is to improve the level of service of the transport logistics chain on the Kinshasa-Tshikapa road as well as the living conditions of the populations in the project area.
The direct beneficiaries are the transport users as well as the populations living in its zone of influence (City of Kinshasa, Provinces of Bandundu, Kasaï Oriental and Kasaï Occidental).
