The African Development Bank's emergency humanitarian assistance for this project is a response to the dramatic situation caused by heavy rains in the city of BOMA during the period from december 2016 to from january 2017. The consequences are disastrous. The reports indicate that 27 dead and 13 missing, 3 damaged bridges, 1181 dwellings, 17 schools, 14 provincial and national health facilities destroyed, more than 3,465 homeless households identified and 24,160 people gathered on public interest land (schools , church, football field). This emergency assistance proposal is specifically aimed at: (i) providing support for the sanitation of flooded areas (distribution of sanitation kits); (ii) support flood-affected populations (distribution of essential medicine, school kits and staple foods); and (iii) ensure the audit of the accounts of the operation.
The main objective of the African Development Bank's emergency humanitarian assistance is to contribute to the efforts of the Congolese Government and other partners, both national and international, by providing immediate assistance to the affected population in the city of Boma.
