The emergency humanitarian assistance for the fight against the Ebola fever epidemic in the Province of Ecuador was designed to stop the spread of the epidemic and reduce its lethality in the said provin. It was initiated following the declaration, in 2014, of the presence of the Ebola virus in the province of Ecuador. The present intervention should permit to reinforce the immediate response measures, namely: active search for suspected cases and contacts, free treatment of patients in isolation centers and in health centers of the four areas affected by the epidemic; strengthening of individual and collective prevention measures in the community and in the health structures; providing health facilities with protective equipment, personal items, medicines, reagents, consumables and other inputs; the reinforcement of the field intervention teams by experts from the central level; the deployment in the coming days of a mobile laboratory team in Boende; intensification of public awareness through different media; strengthening of coordination through the establishment of coordination committees at different levels. The contribution of the African Development Bank Group to this operation is estimated at US $ 1,000,000.
The purpose of this intervention is to provide a direct and immediate response to the humanitarian emergency, to support the efforts of the Congolese government and its partners.
The direct beneficiaries are the health workers and the populations of the affected area (1,070,022 inhabitants) in the Equateur Province. This is the area of Boende and six (06) health areas nearby and at risk (Befale, Bokungu, Mompono, Monkoto, Wema, Lotumbe, Monieka and the health zone of Mbandaka).
