The emergency humanitarian assistance provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB) under this project comes after the dramatic situation resulting from disasters (floods, landslides, house demolitions, crop destruction, overflowing rivers) by the torrential rains that hit the DRC in October and November 2015. The reports indicate that the losses caused by these torrential rains have affected nearly 1,000,000 people in the country, including 30,000 households, with 180,000 in the city of Kinshasa alone. The intervention of the AfDB should eventually provide the affected population with impregnated mosquito in order to protect the affected populations from malaria, medical kits, school kits, chemicals and equipment for water treatment and conservation, equipment for reinforcing the protective dyke on the NDJILI river, cleaning gutters, channels and sewers and disinfecting houses (motor pumps, sprays, bows, machetes, overalls, boots, etc.). The operation will also serve to provide local communities with equipment and food products.
The main objective of the emergency humanitarian aid proposed by the African Development Bank is to contribute to the efforts of the Congolese Government and the International Community by providing immediate and medium-term assistance to the families affected.
The beneficiaries of the intervention are about 20,000 households, or 67% of the victims of the Kinshasa city.
