The Community Development and Vulnerable Sector Support Project (PDCAGV) supports the Government of Central African Republic (CAR) efforts to implement the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP). It complements the initiatives of other partners towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Project activities directly target the most needy social groups. It will intervene in 10 of the 16 prefectures of the country, spread over five regions. The project activities, which will be carried out over a five-year period from 2010 to 2014, are structured in three components: (i) Capacity building; (ii) Development of basic infrastructure; and (iii) Management and monitoring and evaluation. The total cost is UA 8,000,000.
The aim of the PDCAGV project is to contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of the populations, particularly vulnerable groups. Specifically, it aims to improve the provision of basic social services at the community level.
The beneficiaries of the project are the rural poor people in the project area, particularly farmers and women, who represent about 1.75 million people. The main results expected for these groups are the improvement of production techniques for 1,500 farmers, the improvement of beneficiaries' access to drinking water as well as the basic services of health and education through the commissioning of 330 basic community infrastructures, the increase of production for the farmer groups benefiting from the 240 agricultural, fishing and livestock kits, the lightening of domestic tasks for the groups of women beneficiaries of the 150 platforms multifunctional, better supervision of the hearing and visual impaired through the training of 8 trainers specialized in their monitoring, and improving the knowledge of about 100,000 beneficiaries in areas such as the environment, family planning, human rights or conflict prevention and management through IEC activities.
