Project General Description

The presente study focuses on the rehabilitation and extension of drinking water supply and sanitation (DWSS) systems in Brazzaville and Pointe Noire. This project, with a planned duration of 16 months, aims to assess the state of the water supply systems of the two cities mentioned above and their management methods and to propose detailed preliminary projects for the rehabilitation and reinforcement of these systems. It was initiated because of the lack of water management and sanitation policy added to the advanced state of much of the equipment lead to precarious drinking water supply conditions of populations both in urban and rural areas, as well as a very low level of adequate sanitation service. The project is structured around three main components, namely: (i) the study; (ii) training; and (iii) the management of the study.

Project Objectives

The objective of the study is to contribute to the provision of viable and sustainable drinking water supply and sanitation (DWSS) services for all the populations of Brazzaville and Pointe Noire by 2025 of the Vision Africa, with the intermediate objective of meeting the MDGs for water and sanitation by 2015.

The immediate beneficiaries are the populations of the two largest urban centers of the country (Brazzaville and Pointe Noire) which host about 61% of the populations of the Congo.
