This intervention concerns the Construction of the Ring Road as part of the third phase of the Transport Sector Support Programme. It aims to contribute to improving the movement of goods and people. This will strengthen the foundations for strong and sustainable growth by promoting trade at the national level and with neighbouring Nigeria. The Ring-Road has a total length of approximately 365 km. It forms a loop of Bamenda-BambuiNdop-Babessi-Kumbo-Nkambe-Misaje-Nyos-Wum-Bafut-Bamenda. It crosses five of the seven departments of the Northwest Region and includes several connections to the Nigerian border, notably from Misaje. The programme is structured around the four components, namely (i) road works; (ii) related facilities and support for women and youth; (iii) institutional support; and (iv) programme management and coordination.
The programme objective is to improve the level of service of the Ring Road and the living conditions of the population in the programme impact area.
The operation’s direct beneficiaries are the people living in the PIA and its main social groups. Other beneficiaries include various users of the Ring Road (carriers, motorcyclists, pedestrians, etc.), businesses and service providers who will be mobilised to ensure its implementation, as well as technical services and other administrative entities in the North-West Region.
