The proposed emergency assistance to the Republic of Djibouti supports the Government's efforts to assist institutions damaged by Cyclone Sagar. Indeed, between 19 and 20 May 2018, Djibouti was affected by severe weather caused by the tropical cyclone "Sagar". Between 20,000 and 30,000 people were affected by this event. The cyclone, one of a kind in the region, has caused major damage to housing and road and school infrastructure. The Bank's support complements and reinforces the efforts of the Government and international and local development organizations to address the situation. This emergency aid of one million US dollars (1 000 000 USD) will provide immediate assistance for the rehabilitation of school infrastructure damaged by the cyclone.
The main objective of the Bank's emergency humanitarian aid is to contribute to the efforts of the Government of Djibouti and other partners, both national and international, by providing immediate assistance for the rehabilitation of school infrastructure damaged by cyclone Sagar.
The project will mainly benefit the Government of the Republic of Djibouti and the affected populations.
