The present emergency assistance for refugees from Yemen was initiated because of the large influx of refugees caused by the war in that country in 2015. This operation completes and reinforces the Government and the international community's support efforts to refugees from Yemen. Faced with the situation, the Government of Djibouti with the support of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has set up a refugee camp near the town of Obock (5 Km) called Markazi. According to the Government, immediate and medium-term needs amount to US $ 5.493 million and relate to: (1) provision of an urgent response to the needs of displaced persons in Djibouti; (2) improving the living conditions of displaced persons; and (3) strengthening the institutional capacity of the national office for assistance to Refugees and disasters (ONARS). The contribution of the African Development Bank Group, through the Special Relief Fund, is estimated at one million US dollars.
The main objective of the proposed emergency assistance is to contribute to the efforts of the Government of Djibouti and the International Community by providing immediate and medium-term assistance to displaced populations and refugees from Yemen.
The main beneficiaries of the operation are displaced populations and refugees from Yemen.
