This project is related to Koudiat Acerdoune's roll-compacted concrete dam. It’s designed to provide a solution to the security constraint posed by the rockfill dam. The construction of the dam should ensure the continuous supply of the city of Algiers, and meet the demand in the coming years of 14 urban localities and 34 secondary centers in the 4 wilayates located in the vicinity of the dam, and irrigation of 7500 ha in the Middle Isser. The project should provide, from 2005, a supply of 67 million m3 in Algiers, 84 million m3 to 4 wilayates located in the dam area and 26 million m3 for irrigation of the plain of Mitidja and from the Oued Isser valley. It comprises the following components: A) construction of the dam (roll-compacted concrete); B) expropriations; C) environmental protection (anti-erosion); D) ancillary works (bypass roads and power lines ...); E) support to the National Dams Agency (ANB) and to the project cell and; F) supervision of the work of Koudiat Acerdoune dam.
The sectoral objective of the project is to improve the health and quality of life of the population. The objective of the project is to enable the mobilization of surface water resources to cope with i) increasing needs of drinking water of the populations of the city of Algiers and wilayates located in the region of Koudiat Acerdoune, ii) needs in raw water new irrigated perimeters.
The main beneficiaries of the project are the populations of the city of Algiers as well as those of the 4 wilayates located around the dam, namely: Tizi Ouzou, Bouira, Médéa and M'sila.
