The proposed project is a technical assistance to the Government of the Republic of Algeria for the realization of the Study on Inclusive Growth and Employment and the sharing and dissemination of its results. This study will help to define strategies to strengthen the conditions for stronger, job-creating and inclusive growth in Algeria through : (i) carrying out an exhaustive inventory of the current situation, providing information on the quality of growth and its impact on employment; (ii) identifying determining factors likely to make growth much more job-creating, particularly for young people and women; (iii) the development of a mapping of the labor force, with a segmentation of profiles that will be in high or low demand in the future; (iv) the identification of major reforms to be carried out in the area of skills development and training related to the labor market, on the one hand, while initiating urgent measures in terms of economic diversification, on the other hand.
The general objective is to assess the impact of growth on employment and its quality, and to identify the sources of growth for a diversified economy, in order to propose solutions to the issue of unemployment, particularly youth unemployment. Specifically, the project will make it possible to : (1) establish a comprehensive diagnosis of the main sectors that create jobs in Algeria; (2) carry out a concise analysis of the profiles of job seekers; (3) carry out a diagnosis of the mechanisms for promoting employment; (4) prepare an analytical report on the interactions between the labor, goods and capital markets; (5) analyse the evolution of growth over the last decade and forecast economic growth in the light of sectoral strategies; and (6) make recommendations on current policies and reforms followed by an action plan, focusing on the sectors that are conducive to inclusive growth that creates jobs.
The main beneficiaries of the project are the Government of Algeria, youth and women.
