The Government of Egypt (GOE) has an ongoing investment programme aimed at addressing the national issues of public health and environmental protection, including the protection of the country’s finite water resources. Egypt’s "Sustainable Development Strategy; Egypt’s Vision 2030" (SDS2030) was announced as a national plan in March 2015. It stipulates “Water pollution” as a main issue causing shortage of water resources and “Reuse of treated wastewater for irrigation and industrial water according to modern specifications” as a main priority for securement of water resources.
Wastewater and industrial discharge are pointed out as causes of water pollution of public water bodies. The strategy promotes the treatment of wastewater to comply with water quality discharge standards in order to conserve water resources.
