The present Emergency School Reconstruction Project aims to meet the needs of the affected areas after the earthquake that destroyed thousands of schools. The expected project outputs are: i) Design Studies for construction; ii) Construction of 131 schools; iii) procurement and supply of School furniture and school equipment. The project comprises four components which are: (i) improvement of school infrastructure, (ii) school maintenance, (iii) capacity building in Ministry of Education (MOE); and (vi) project management.
The project's objective is to meet the needs of the affected areas after the earthquake that destroyed thousands of schools. The specific objectives of the project are to: i) to restore and improve the physical condition of existing primary, preparatory and some secondary schools damaged by the earthquake; ii) improve school maintenance and awareness of its importance by providing school maintenance kits and a broad training scheme; and iii) improve the capacity of the MOE to manage the school system.
The project's beneficiaries are most of the schools and communities damaged and affected by the earthquake located in the Governorates of Fayoum, Giza, Cairo, Kalubeiya and Asswan.
