The project entails the design, construction, and operation of Kinguélé Aval hydropower plant, with an estimated installed capacity of 34.1 MW and net annual gross output of 203GWh.The project will be located c. 90 km from Libreville on the Mbei River, located next to the Monts de Cristal (Estuaire region, North-West of Gabon).Two hydro dams, built upstreamin the Mbei Valley, are regulating the river namely Kinguélé Amount (57.6 MW), 10km upstreamand Tchimbélé (68MW), 50km upstream. All electricity generated by the Project is expected to be sold to the Government of Gabon (“GoG”)on a Take or Pay basis.
The Project will provide 34.1MW of reliable, affordable, and clean energy generation capacity to the population. Furthermore, the Project is expected to offer baseload electricity at a competitive tariff.In addition, it will contribute to improve socio-economic development through support of economic activity,while providing cost effective reliable energy sources needed to boost economic sectors and address the population’s expectations while contributing to social stabilityand transition towards green growth in the energy sector, supporting Gabon’s 100% clean energy target (with 80% hydropower) by 2025 through increase in renewable energy supply, household access to clean energy and associated green jobs.
Asonha Energie S.A, the project company, has been created by the international consortium comprised of(i) Meridiam: a leading global investor and asset manager based in Paris specialized in developing, financing and managing long-term public infrastructure projects and (ii) Gabon Power Company (“GPC”): a holding company created in 2015 by the Fonds Gabonais d’Investissement Stratégique (“FGIS”) to contribute to financing energy and infrastructure projects in Gabon.
