The Ghana Airports Company Limited’s (GACL) capital investment programme entails the construction of a new terminal at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra, and rehabilitation of other airports managed by GACL including Kumasi, Tamale, Ho and Wa Airports. This transaction entails funding of GACL’s capital investment Programme that consists of the construction of a new terminal at KIA and rehabilitation/modernisation of other airports in Ghana. The Programme also entails a component of refinancing some of GACL’s debt although the Bank’s loan will not be used for such refinancing. The main component of the Programme is the work to modernise and upgrade KIA, the only international airport in Ghana and the first port of call for business travellers as well as tourists in the country. The airport is located within the city of Accra and ranked as the third busiest airport in the West African sub-region following Lagos and Dakar. Being the gateway to Ghana, the expansion of KIA will ensure sufficient revenue generation for GACL and additional capacity for airport infrastructure in the country.
The purpose of the project is to improve general air transport services and operations efficiency in Ghana.
The beneficiaries of this project are the Government of Ghana and the population.
