This intervention concerns the Rehabilitation and Maintenance Project for the Ile Bioko Road (Malabo-luba). It aims to reduce transport costs on the road network that contributes to opening up the island of Bioko and in particular the province of Bioko North, the island's main economic activity zone. The project is expected to improve the road network on Bioko Island and significantly reduce vehicle operating costs and the cost of maintaining the road concerned. The priority axis thus defined, once rehabilitated, should make it possible to ensure the comfort and safety of the populations, the easy flow of a large part of agricultural production including livestock and fishing. The project has three main components, namely: (i) rehabilitation of the Malabo-Luba road (31.4 km), (ii) acquisition of road traffic maintenance and counting equipment and spare parts, and (iii) services of consultants for the study of a road fund and the updating of the rehabilitation study, technical assistance to the subdivision of the island's public works and the control and supervision of the works.
The sectoral objective of the project is to open up the province of Bioko North. Its specific objectives are (i) to meet the demand for transport along the Malabo Luba road at the lowest cost, (ii) to improve the structures of the Directorate General of Public Works, Ports and Maritime Signals (DGTPSM) on Bioko Island and (iii) to improve the road management and maintenance facilities on Bioko Island.
