The present intervention is related to the Rural Health Project II. It aims to contribute to improving the health status of all Kenyans, through the methodical restructuring of the health sector. The project should allow the rehabilitation, modernization and construction of seven health centers. This should help to increase the number of patients treated in the health centers for which data are available. Communities in the 7 districts needed to be made aware of the identification of major health problems and the adoption of measures to address them, through health training, protection of water supply sites provision of ventilated pit latrines and treated mosquito net distribution. The project has three main components, namely: (i) health facilities; (ii) community health care; and (iii) project management.
The goal of the Kenya Second Rural Health Project (RHP II) is to improve the health status of all Kenyans through deliberate restructuring of the health sector to make all health services more effective, accessible and affordable. The specific objective is to improve the health status of the target communities in seven districts through a primary health care strategy, with a focus on community participation and support to community initiatives within the context of the Kenya Health Policy Framework (1994) and the Eighth National Development Plan (1997-2001).
The primary beneficiaries are the target communities residing in the seven districts comprising the project area and their respective district and village health services.
