Project General Description

The present project is relative to the support to the OCP S.A. (Office Chérifien des Phosphates) ten-year investment program in Morocco. The program is designed to create 9 000 direct jobs and help alleviate the current social tensions in the country. It aims to increase the OCP's phosphate production capacity by 65% (28 to 47 million tonnes per year), reduce operational and transportation costs of rock phosphate, and build a new industrial site to locally transform the bulk of the mineral into fertilizer.

Project Objectives

The program’s objective is to increase public revenue in terms of taxes and dividends, and contribute to the promotion of Moroccan industrial SMEs. In parallel with the modernization of its industrial tool, OCP will strengthen its environmental and social management capabilities with the Bank's support. OCP will thus make an even greater contribution to the national economy.

Beneficiaries

The program will benefit mainly the Moroccan Government, and the entire population of Morocco.
