This project is part of the objectives of the land transport sector, as defined by the proposed guidelines for the five-year program (1993-1997) which gives priority to the rehabilitation, maintenance of the classified road network and focuses on reinforcing and renewing the pavement of the main priority roads with a total length of 15000 km. The project constitutes the continuation of the rehabilitation and maintenance of the road network already undertaken by Morocco with the assistance of the Bank in the framework of the first three (3) projects in the sub-sector (Maintenance and Renovation Program of Secondary and Tertiary Roads (PERST), road component of the Transport Sector Program (PST) and Second road rehabilitation and maintenance project). It consists in safeguarding the road infrastructure, satisfying the transport demand at the lowest cost and reinforcing the DRCR to maintain the classified road network. The execution will last forty (40) months with an estimated cost excluding taxes and customs duties amounting to 957.22 million Dirhams (UA 72.66 million).
The project has the following specific objectives: (i) improving the level of service of roads; (ii) reducing road transport costs by reducing the cost of operating the vehicles; (iii) increasing the efficiency of routine maintenance through the partial renovation of road and road traffic park equipment.
The main beneficiaries of the project are the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco, the populations as well as the users of the roads of the zone of influence (Central, South-Center, North-Center, Oriental, North-West, South and Tensift regions).
