Project General Description

The Seventh Drinking Water Supply Project forms part of the Bank’s operations’ programme to develop Morocco’s drinking water supply sector. It aims, in particular, the strengthening and extension of drinking water facilities in the cities of Tiznit and TanTan, including the center of El Ouatia (TanTan beach). The project has the following components: (i) TanTan / Elouatia DWS; (ii) Tiznit DWS, (iii) sanitation of Bouznika, and (iv) technical assistance to the project unit and geotechnical and material testing. The project will be carried out over a period of 4 years, starting in May 2000.

Project Objectives

The sector goal of the project is to provide drinking water to urban and rural populations and economic actors (industries, tourism sector) of the country in sufficient quantity and quality, as well as to prepare the implementation of sanitation systems.

Beneficiaries

The project will benefit a total population estimated at about 240,000 inhabitants (including the city of Ifni, centers and douars that are fed from the project).
