The Project for the Sustainable and the Securisation Access to Water (PPSAE) aims to secure access to drinking water in Guercif, Zagora, Al Hoceima, Tangier and Béni Mellal Provinces. It is designed on the basis of the priority needs identified by ONEE-Water Branch as part of its investment programme for the period (2016-2020). It aims to meet the growing need for drinking water and industrial water in these areas until 2040. The project is designed to secure access to drinking water in urban centres and in the rural areas of the regions concerned. The project, whose total cost is estimated at UA 194 million, is scheduled to be completed over a 60-month period. The main components of the project are: (i) strengthening the water supply system in urban and rural areas; (ii) technical support, procurement audit and (iii) project management.
The project goal is to strengthen and secure access to safe drinking water in several urban and rural areas.
The project will benefit Guercif, Zagora, Al Hoceima and Béni Mellal Provinces. The beneficiaries are about 1.2 million inhabitants (about 60% of whom live in rural areas), in addition to the beneficiary population in and around Tangier, which currently stands at about 1.3 million. Therefore, the project beneficiaries currently exceed 2.5 million.
