The Basic Education Support Project is designed because of the difficulties encountered by the level of basic education. The project is part of the implementation of the ruralisation policy and the improvement of the quality of basic education, the increase in enrolment rates and the generalization of literacy activities. It aims to develop the capacity for basic education in the first cycle, particularly in the Bamako district. The new structures to be created should make it possible to train 15,000 primary school children each year from 1996 onwards. This is an important contribution to the efforts of the Government and the International Donor Community to promote greater equity in access to school and create the basic intellectual conditions that can support the country's development. The components of the project are as follows: A) studies and supervision; B) construction; C) rehabilitation; D) equipment; E) furniture; F) training; G) operating costs.
The project aims to improve the quality of basic education and expand access at the first cycle level in Bamako District.
The main beneficiaries of the project are students in the Bamako District, teachers and other stakeholders in the education system.
