The Education III project is the Bank Group's third intervention in the sector in Mali. It should contribute to attaining the Governement’s education and training objectives. The project is to address the problem of insufficient training of planning and administrative education personnel, the poor quality of fundamental education and the low level of development of vocation training. It is essentially developed in disadvantaged regions offers several benfits for Mali, in so far as it should contribute to promoting human ressources needed mostly by the country for its development. The project should also enable the Ministry of Basic Education to have updated data and reliable analyses on the operating and effectiveness of the education system. The main components of the project are: (i) support for educational planning and management; (ii) improvement of the quality of basic education; (iii) development of vocational training; (iv) promotion of girls' enrolment; and (v) support for the Project Implementation Unit (PIC).
The project's sectoral objective is to contribute to human resource development by reducing the overall illiteracy rate and increasing the number of teachers. The specific objectives are to: (i) strengthen capacities for educational management and planning; (ii) improve the quality of basic education; (iii) expand vocational training; and (iv) improve girls' enrolment.
The main beneficiaries of the project are students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders in the education system.
