The present intervention concerns the Project to Support Economic Governance and Gender Promotion. It aims to improve economic governance and women's living conditions. The main components of the project are: (I) support for the General Census of Economic Units; (II) development of Mali's gender profile; (III) Institutional Support; and (IV) project management. Activities planned under this project should strengthen the country's resilience by improving economic governance and addressing gender inequalities, two major sources of fragility in Mali. They will improve the effectiveness of public policies through the development of relevant decision-making tools (reliable business statistics, robust economic analyses and prospective studies), transparency in public life and the fight against corruption, as well as the integration of the gender variable in national strategic documents.
The overall objective of the project is to improve economic governance and women's living conditions, through support to capacity building activities of institutions in charge of economic governance, transparency of public life and the fight against corruption, and gender promotion. Specifically, this project aims to: (i) improve the National Statistical System (NSS) through the production of quality information on statistics from enterprises (formal and informal) run by women and men; (ii) develop the gender profile with a view to providing sex-disaggregated data in different sectors, while analysing the causes and consequences of identified gender disparities; (iii) strengthen the capacities of agents and structures in charge of the formulation and implementation of national policies, in particular policies for development, the promotion of transparency in public life and the fight against corruption, and those relating to the reduction of gender inequalities.
The main beneficiary of the project is the Government of Mali.
