The Support for Good Governance Loan (SGGL) is a policy-based loan that is designed to improve good governance in Malawi by (i) enhancing accountability and transparency throughout Malawi’s public sector, & (ii) supporting targeted legal reforms aimed at improving access to justice, curbing corruption, and accelerating the law reform process. It comes in a context where the Government of Malawi (GOM) is confronted with the need to put the country back on track for development. This good governance program based on a reform policy aims to reduce poverty through economic and social development.
The overall goal of the program is to strengthen the governance framework towards poverty reduction in line with the Malawi poverty reduction strategy. Its objectives are: (i) increase accountability and transparency in public sector financial operations; and (ii) promote the rule of law and access to justice.
The beneficiaries of the project are: (i) the Government and its economic and governance services as well as the population.
