The proposed project supports the development of a strategy and a national action plan for decent youth employment in the agricultural and agri-food sectors in Niger (PAJEJ2A). The project aims to promote job creation in the agricultural and agri-food sectors in the country. The Bank will support the Government of Niger in its efforts to boost youth employment in the agricultural and agri-food sector and play a strategic role in national consultations on this issue in Niger. The project has 4 components: (i) Elaboration and popularisation of a strategy and a national action plan for youth employment in the agricultural and agri-food sector in Niger; (ii) Capacity building of actors and structures involved in the implementation of the strategy; (iii) Mobilisation of resources necessary for the implementation of the NAP and the scaling up of the COE; (iv) Operation of the Project Management Unit. This assistance is expected to contribute to the reduction of the youth unemployment rate. The total cost of the project, net of taxes and duties, is estimated at UA 1,000,000.
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the improvement of the effectiveness of policies for the promotion of employment of young men and women in the agricultural and agri-food sectors in Niger through (i) the elaboration of a national strategy integrating the gender theme and its action plan in this field, (ii) the contribution to the mobilization of the necessary resources for the implementation of the action plan, and (iii) the reinforcement of the capacities of the actors and the structures involved in the implementation of the strategy.
The targeted beneficiaries are: the Government of Niger, the Ministry of Agriculture/General Secretariat/Agricultural Policy Support Unit (USPA), young men and women entrepreneurs in the agribusiness sector.
