The proposed study is for the second phase referred to as Cross River State Rural Access and Mobility Project – Phase 2 (CR – RAMP 2). It is in line with Cross River State Vision 2020 (2009 – 2020) whose Transport Strategy is to provide safe and efficient transportation systems and infrastructures, thereby easing the movement of goods and persons. This study aims to identify inputs for the rehabilitation/reconstruction of about 500 km of rural roads in the state. It consists of three (3) components, namely; a) Feasibility studies, detailed engineering design, and preparation of tender documents for the rehabilitation/reconstruction of 500 km of rural roads, b) Project management by the SPIU, and c) Project Audit. The estimated cost of the study net of taxes is UA 1.015 million. The outcome will assist the Government, the Bank, and other stakeholders to make informed decisions on the development of the rural roads in the state.
The Sector goal is to develop an adequate, safe, environmentally sound and efficient transport system in the context of a progressive and competitive market economy. The objective of the project is to improve access to transport services for the rural population in Cross River State. The primary objective of the study is to provide information leading to the rehabilitation of rural roads.
The study will benefit the whole of CRS as the roads will cover all the 18 Local Government Areas (LGA) of the state. The study phase will create job opportunities in terms of support staff to the design staff, which will benefit the communities through direct employment and the supply of goods and services to the study team. The study roads are distributed over the entire 18 LGAs of the state, thereby benefitting the total Cross River State population of 3.738 million people.
