The present project is the third expansion phase of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG)’s LNG plant located in Finima on Bonny Island, approximately 40 km south of Port Harcourt, on the eastern part of the Niger River delta (the Niger Delta). The project, known as NLNGPlus Project (Trains 4 and 5 plus associated facilities), should produce LNG for sale on the international markets. The NLNGPlus Project consists of the construction and operation of two additional air-cooled LNG Trains (4 and 5) capable of processing 1.334 million standard cubic feet per day (mscfd) of gas, bringing the total number to five Trains with an overall capacity of 2.810 mscfd gas intake. Specifically, the NLNGPlus Project (Trains 4 and 5 plus associated facilities) should increase LNG production capacity by 92%, from 8.7 mtpa to 16.7 mtpa, condensate capacity by 120% from 0.5 mtpa to 1.1mtpa, and LPG capacity by 83% from 1.2 mtpa to 2.2 mtpa.
The purpose of the project is to (i) capture the gas flares in Nigeria to increase the LNG production, (ii) exploit the associated oil-gas, and (iii) implement an air-cooling design instead of the water-cooling process used for the existing Trains.
The main beneficiaries of the project are the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited, the local communities in the project area as well as the entire population of Nigeria.
