The proposed feasibility study should enable the Government of Rwanda and its potential partners to decide whether or not to invest in the implementation of the lime and/or crushed travertine production project. The study will be carried out in two (2) phases and addresses the following main points: (i) confirmation and classification of reserves of Rwandan travertine deposits; (ii) Study of the local market for lime and crushed travertine; (iii) definition of a lime and/or travertine production project; (iv) institutional, economic and financial evaluation of the project; (v) environmental assessment of the project.
The objective of the study is to examine in detail the possibility of producing, from local travertine deposits, lime for Rwandan agriculture, the construction and water treatment industry and ground travertines for soil improvement.
The main beneficiary is the Government of Rwanda. The first concern of these national authorities, through the development of such a project, is to give Rwandan farmers the opportunity to effectively combat the acidity of their cropland.
