Project General Description

The proposed project which will be implemented over a period of four and a half years involves the extension of Ecole Technique Officielle (ETO) and Centre de Perfectionnement de Professeurs d’Enseignement Technique (CEPET) at Kicukiro, the construction of a new Ecole Technique Officielle (ETO) at Kibungo, the supply of equipment, furniture and teaching aids for these institutions as well as preinvestment study for the construction of Ecole Normale Technique Supérieure (ENTS) at Ruhengeri. The project’s scope aimed at expanding technical education in Rwanda comes much more clearly into focus when the ENTS component is taken into consideration. Indeed, the study besides, giving the opportunity to improve tremendously upon the stock of information concerning the education sector as a whole and technical and vocational training in particular, will lead to the construction of the ENTS which is expected to be a special training grounds for high-level teachers, a function being assumed for the time being by CEPET.

Project Objectives

The project aims at consolidating and expanding the student intake capacity of technical educational establishments and upgrading the qualifications of technical teachers.

Beneficiaries

The establishment of a new secondary technical college, the extension of another, and the setting up of a further-training centre for teachers, will enable Government to broaden significantly the structural bases of technical and vocational training and therefore to respond more effectively to the country’s pressing need for competent national technical personnel.
