The Seychelles East African System (SEAS) Submarine Cable Project is implemented in a context where the telecommunication operators in Seychelles heavily rely on satellite systems for the bulk of their international traffic. The project will include the installation of approximately 2,000 km of subsea cable running from Beau Vallon, Seychelles to shore crossing and landing site in Dar es-Salaam, Tanzania. The proposed SEAS cable will directly link the Seychelles (Victoria, on Mahé Island) to Tanzania (Dar es-Salaam).
The project's goal is to enable the Seychelles to develop a connectivity system to international standards for faster, cheaper Internet services that will promote the country's integration into the global economy. The project will, in effect, increase access broadband penetration from 19% to more than 60%, and will reduce broadband retail prices from USD 50 to USD 15 a month.
Beneficiaries will be both local businesses and households. The project will, in effect, increase access to broadband penetration from 19% to more than 60%, and reduce broadband retail prices from $ 50 to $ 15 per month.
