1. The overall aim of the project was to contribute to reducing transport cost in Sudan by improving the operating performance of the Sudan Railways Corporation (SRC) and thereby making rail transportation more efficient. 2. The specific objectives of the project were to : (i) arrest further deterioration of the operating performance of SRC; (ii) improve utilization of SRC's the existing capacity ; (iii) restructure SRC as a financially sound and economically efficient provider of transportation. The ADF component of the project will contribute towards improvement of motive power, rolling stock availability and reduction of freight wagons turn-around time, and reduced operating costs of locomotives through brake conversion and tracks repair.
