This operation is a US$ 500,000 emergency assistance program to support Victims of Floods in Kassala City. The program is part of a larger operation in which a number of bilateral donors and other multilateral organizations are participating. This larger operation is being coordinated by the Kassala Emergency Forum of the Republic of Sudan. The proposed humanitarian relief assistance entails the provision of kits to prevent cholera and water-borne disease, drugs and supplies, spraying equipment and chemicals for environmental sanitation. It complements the assistance provided by other donors in different areas of need.
The main goal of the proposed humanitarian relief assistance is to mitigate health-related effects of the floods in the Kassala city. The specific objective is to control the outbreaks of malaria, cholera and other communicable diseases among the flood victims. The incidence and prevalence of these diseases have significantly increased in flood-affected areas where about 35.000 people have been displaced and housed in temporary accommodation.
The beneficiaries are the Sudanese government and the people of Kassala city.
