The proposed operation is a UA 1.97 million (US $3.2 million) grant from Pillar III of the Fragile States Facility for Technical Assistance to Sudan for Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) Preparation. The PRSP process is important for Sudan’s arrears clearance and debt relief process, especially for fulfilling the conditions for debt relief under Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) and the Multilateral Debt Relief Initiative (MDRI). Most of the funds will go towards financing a National Baseline Household Survey (NBHS) in all 18 states in Sudan, which will be the first since the secession of South Sudan. The project includes the following components: (i) Capacity for the Household Income, Expenditure, and Poverty Survey; (ii) Capacity for full PRSP Preparation, Implementation and Monitoring; (iii) Capacity for the actual Project management.
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to poverty reduction and economic and social development in the Sudan. The specific objective is to support the preparation of the full-fledged country Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP).
The project beneficiary is the Sudan’s government.
