This intervention concerns the Feasibility Study, Detailed Engineering Design and ESIA of Upgrading 183-Km Hargeisa - Odweine - Burao Road. It aims to undertake a full feasibility study, Detailed Engineering Design and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the Upgrading of 183-Km Hargeisa- Odweine-Burao Road from Gravel to Bitumen Standard. This is a gravel road in poor condition and a vital missing link in IGAD Economic Transport corridors, prioritized in the recently completed IGAD Regional Infrastructure Master Plan 2020 to 2050. The current driving distance between two towns via Berbera City is around 296 km and driving time around 5 hours. The proposed new road will reduce the driving distance from 296Km to 183 Km and driving time to less than 2 hours when paved. This study comprises the following components: (i) Feasibility Study, (ii) Project management, Workshops, Monitoring & Evaluation and (iii) Project Financial Audit.
The principal objective of this preparatory phase of the project is to finance the preparation of a full feasibility study. This will cover technical, economic, financial and environmental impacts assessment, in order to inform the country and potential financers of its viability.
The main beneficiary of the study is the Government of Somalia.
