Project General Description

The present intervention concerns the Emergency Humanitarian Relief Assistance to the Victims of Drought. It aims to contribute to alleviating the suffering of Somalia drought victims. This assistance will be targeted at vulnerable individuals and households with the primary objective of saving lives and preserving livelihoods. Due to the imminent shortfalls, local and regional purchases which have added benefit of supporting the national and regional agricultural economies will be made. Indeed, the grant funds will be used to provide vulnerable groups with food vouchers whose value will amount to the minimum food basket (50Kg of Sorghum, 10Kg of Maize, 10Kg of Beans and 3Kg of cooking oil), as well as costs associated with ground logistics and support for linking with the suppliers and distribution of food vouchers and verifications of the beneficiaries and for administrative charges.

Project Objectives

The objective of the proposed Bank humanitarian emergency relief assistance for Somalia is to contribute to the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and United Nations (UN)’s efforts in providing urgent food aid distributions and deliveries to drought affected families in the affected areas.

The main beneficiaries of the operation are the individuals and households affected by the drought, mainly the vulnerable groups (widows, orphans, female and elderly-headed households) without alternative means of survival.
