Project General Description

This intervention is related to the 4th General Census of Population and Habitat 2012 (IV RGPH) project. It's designed by the Government of Sao Tome and Principe with the support of the African Development Fund. The project comprises several components, namely: (A) equipment: (i) awareness raising and sensitization materials and other means, (ii) IT equipment and other equipment; (B) capacity building including training of local cadres in cartography and demography; (C) project management including: (i) the recruitment of four experts in cartography, demographics, financial management and procurement; (ii) conducting an external audit.

Project Objectives

This project has the following main objectives: (i) improve knowledge of the characteristics of the population and housing with a view to designing relevant and realistic development programs, (ii) collect information associated with other sources of information such as environment, agriculture, health, education etc., (iii) allow evaluation of these same programs; (iv) develop the demographic ATLAS; (v) carry out digitized census mapping using new information technologies, including GPS and establish a Geographic Information System (GIS).

Beneficiaries

The project benefits the Government, the technical and financial partners, the users of survey data and the general population.
