The project aimed at upgrading to bituminous standard the link between junction MR7 and Lomabasha to provide an improved access to sugar growing areas in the north-eastern region, and also to provide an international road link between Swaziland and Mozambique. The project is of high regional importance since it lessens the dependency of Swaziland on South African seaports and gives the country easy access to the seaport of Maputo in Mozambique.
