This project concerns the Koumra-Sarh road section (110 km), which is one of the missing links of the Ndjamena-Moundou-Sarh corridor. The project will: (i) develop and tar 110 km of the Koumra-Sarh road section, (ii) carry out related works and specific actions for women; (iii) inspect and supervise the works; and (iv) provide support for project management, monitoring-evaluation, as well as audit of accounts. The development of the Koumra - Sarh road section will provide the missing link on the Moundou-Sarh corridor, since the Moundou-Doba and Doba-Koumra sections jointly financed by the European Development Fund (EDF) and Chad, are in progress. This highway will eventually link N’Djamena to Sarh and open up the country’s south, especially the oil-producing region of Doba. This region in South East Chad is also the country’s bread basket. The development of the road will also facilitate the transportation of agricultural surpluses to the rest of the country, especially N’Djamena, and will encourage the population of the project area (PA) to produce more, thus contributing to greater food security in the country. The total project cost, exclusive of taxes and custom duties, and including physical and financial contingencies, is estimated at UA 56.17 million or CFAF 42.76 billion.
At the sector level, the project aims at contributing to opening up the country and reducing transport costs. More specifically, the project seeks to improve the efficacy of the transport logistic chain, as well as acce ssibility and mobility of the rural populations in South Chad (Mandoul and Moyen-Chari).
The main beneficiaries of the project are the populations of the Mandoul and Moyen-Chari regions, the women's associations, the populations of the south-eastern Chad region, the transport operators and road users.
