The present assistance operation of the Bank will enable Chad to reinforce its preventive mechanism to contain the upcoming crises. This assistance is therefore part of humanitarian relief for the adoption of reasonable measures where a disaster is imminent. The Bank Group's contribution to the financing of the EMOP is US $ 1,000,000 net of tax. These resources will be used to revitalize the laboratory network and strengthen the logistics of the epidemiological monitoring system. The emergency assistance operation has three (3) main components. The first is devoted to the acquisition of 150,000 doses of bivalent A / C vaccine and the coverage of operational costs required for the implementation of vaccination. The second component focuses on the acquisition of medications necessary for the care of people with meningitis. The third concerns the strengthening of the epidemiological monitoring system. The operation must be implemented as soon as possible and its total duration cannot exceed six (6) months.
The objective of the emergency aid is to contribute to the governmental action aimed at preparing the services of the Ministry of Public Health for effective management of the next meningitis epidemics for the period from December 2009 to June 2010.
The project will benefit the Ministry of Public Health and the general population of Chad in general. In particular, populations of areas in the meningitis belt, children and youth aged 2 to 30 years in the endemic area of meningitis are targeted.
