The proposed study aims to cover areas of high priority for the Government of Togo such as the establishment of an Integrated Population Information System (IIC-POP), information on family and migration/urbanization. The study in the population sector will thus contribute to a better understanding of population issues in order to enable the definition of projects that will contribute to the implementation of this policy. Indeed, there is no integrated population information system that provides the country with complete, reliable and consistent socio-demographic information. Similarly, knowledge on family and migration and urbanization remains limited due to the lack of national studies in these areas. The study is also designed to cover complementary areas of population knowledge with respect to the operations planned by the government in 1997-98. This study will be national in scope and will be conducted in two (2) phases: the first phase consists of three (3) complementary components, the results of which will be translated into operational recommendations to guide development actions. This phase will last between six (6) and eighteen (18) months. The second phase, which will last six (6) months, will be devoted to the preparation of detailed projects based on the results and recommendations of the first phase. The proposed projects will be prepared in accordance with the government and ADF priorities and will be documented in a project document. Its implementation will provide the country with reliable information for the implementation of the population policy and for integrated socio-economic planning.
The study, at the sectoral level, aims to improve knowledge on population issues. More specifically, the objective of the study is to identify the problems of the sector through socio-demographic analyses and to propose concrete solutions to these problems in the form of projects.
The project main beneficiary is the Government of Togo.
