The Youth Agricultural Investment Support Facility (FAIAJ) aims to contribute to the inclusion of disadvantaged youth in the economic and social fabric of Togo. This operation responds to the need to strengthen the competitiveness of value chains promoted by the Support Project for Youth Employability and Integration in Promising Sectors (PAEIJ-SP) with AfDB support. The implementation of the PAIAJ would reinforce the PAEIJ-SP's spectrum of action by including excluded youth while accelerating their socio-economic integration. The proposed intervention, by focusing on disadvantaged young men and women excluded from most current funding mechanisms, addresses the vectors of fragility and strengthens their resilience. The project has three (03) components: (i) technical support for disadvantaged young people, 30% of whom are young women, for their insertion into the missing links and services of the value chains promoted by the PAEIJ-SP; (ii) financial support for the enterprises of disadvantaged young people, 30% of whom are women; (iii) project management. The cost is estimated at UA 1.00 million supported by the Transition Support Facility (TSF) (Pillar III). The implementation period is 36 months.
The general objective of the intervention is to contribute to a better inclusion of disadvantaged youth in the economic and social fabric of Togo. The specific objectives of the project are to (i) to facilitate the integration of approximately 620 disadvantaged young men and women, one third of whom are women, into the agricultural value chains promoted by the PAEIJ-SP; and (ii) to facilitate access to finance for 530 businesses of the disadvantaged young people supported. The main expected results are: (i) disadvantaged young people are inserted into the links of the agricultural value chains promoted by the PAEIJ-SP; (ii) the enterprises of the disadvantaged young people supported are financed; (iii) the project is well managed.
PAIAJ is specifically targeted at young people who are not eligible for the youth integration projects/programmes available in Togo. The aim is to enable disadvantaged young people to create and grow their businesses while gaining a comfortable economic and social position. The main direct beneficiaries are: (i) young people excluded from other financing mechanisms such as PAEIJ-SP, FAIEJ, PNPER, MIFA, PRADEB, ANPGF, (ii) SMEs in the value chains promoted by PAEIJ-SP. Approximately 600 disadvantaged young men and women, a third of whom are women, will benefit from the project. The project will also create 5000 indirect jobs, one third of which will be for women.
