The proposed project is a grant from the African Development Bank to the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania in order to finance the Africa Franchising Accelerator Project (AFRAP) in line of the upcoming Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The project includes the following components: (i) Mapping of ecosystem and developing a franchise enabling environment in the entire EAC region; (ii) Access to skills for 100 indigenous franchise brands and key stakeholders; (iii) Project management and incubation of the Franchise Association of Tanzania (FATA). Using Tanzania as a pilot, franchising is expected to drive deeper and faster economic integration, commercial diplomacy, rapid skills transfer, jobs creation, wealth creation, and poverty reduction in Africa.
The principal objectives of this project are to : (i) Support the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania in drafting a franchise policy and integrating franchising in other trade –related policies; (ii) Support and nurture 90 indigenous SMEs and 10 aggregated micro operators’ transformation into franchise brands; (iii) Incubate the Franchise Association of Tanzania (FATA) to become the industry selfregulatory mechanism at project closure.
The project main beneficiaries are the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, the indigenous SMEs, micro operators and the Franchise Association of Tanzania (FATA).
