Provide adequate transmission capacity for evacuation of power from Bujagali Power Station to one existing and future distribution companies, thereby increasing access to cheaper and more reliable electricity supply.
The project's overall objective is to provide adequate transmission capacity to evacuate power to be generated at Bujagali Power Station in 2010 and improve power supply quality and reliability.
The project will benefit to the Government of Uganda through restoring adequate and reliable power supply to the country as well as financially sustaining the power sector. The project will contribute to poverty reduction and improving the Ugandan population’s access to electricity, which in turn will facilitate water supply, health care delivery, education and rural development. It will also improve rural enterprises' productivity and farmers' agro-processing potential. Other beneficiaries include the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Uganda Electric Transmission Company Ltd (UETCL) and UMEME Company Ltd.
